Jessie Thomas Morgan, Percy Leon Thomas' younger sister and Joan Thomas on Main Street -- see the W.H. Newell Bakery located at 1945 Main Street just south of the Florence Court Apartments known then as the Florida Hotel. Photo made about 1937-38. Jessie who was only 12 years old when her Mother, Mary Ella Murrhee died, began living with the Thomas family in Springfield after she had become a teacher. For a short time she taught at 10th and Market Elementary School. She was extremely active in the Main Street Baptist Church and the last of the Thomas family to have membership there before MSBC closed its doors.
Jessie, whose was called "Jessie Pet" when she was a little girl, was also active in the Story Tellers Group for many years. When she retired after well over 50 years of continuous teaching in Riverside schools, she travelled extensively.
