White Sands: A Walk in the Woods Photograph by Marden Paul
Five years after the sandstorm in the next picture (White Sands National Monument in a Sandstorm), the wind calmed down. The 2 intrepid souls
in the background were walking along the "trail" to the source of the gypsum,
6 miles away. My friend Dayante and I, covered in sun protective gear and
hotel towels under our hats to guard our necks from the sun, realised that
wandering in glistening white sand in hundred degree weather without any wind
for a few miles was not such a good idea so we headed back to Alamogordo, NM,
and drank a few gallons of water to rehydrate.
