Dancy Terrace or Redell Street between 9th and 10th, Main and Hubbard Streets, Springfield, Jacksonville, Florida

Percy Leon Thomas on the Balcony of the Tax Office in Jacksonville. Notice the street beyond/below. This was the old US Court and Post Office Building at Hogan and Forsyth in downtown Jacksonville, Florida. Several of these tax office pictures were made at the same time both inside the office and outside on the balcony. The Federal Building/Post Office was the tallest building to survive the Great Fire of 1901. The fire was stopped at Laura, one block away. Many photos both during and after the fire were made from the top of this building.

Percy Leon Thomas was appointed Deputy Collector of Internal Revenue in Jacksonville, Florida in 1910, 4 years before his marriage to Stella DeSha. The picture above was taken sometime between 1916 and 1920. He later became an Attorney-at-law. This building which was built between 1892 and 1895, was a very unique and important architectureal landmark and so of course had to be demonished.
