Artist's Statement by Jing-Ling Kao To me, photography has been over the years anywhere from an obsession, a passing hobby, an excuse to travel, or a convenient income. Although my favourite subject is people (I love the instant connection through the familiarity of a human gesture), the following collection of photos are absent of people and looking back, I realize that for the most part, these photos were taken while I was traveling alone. Without the distraction of conversation, I captured scenes that I found beautiful, whimsical, or striking. I made a reluctant transition to digital photography last summer and haven't looked back since. No longer encumbered with mental calculations of the cost per frame, I've been happily snapping away with my Nikon D70. These photos are a mix of digital and film source and span from 1998 to 2004. |
