Presented by the Mattie V. Rutherford School Elementary School

Miss Nellie E. Cooke, Principal

I love these pictures that my Mother, Joan Thomas, took of her 4th Grade students in May Day Festival costumes. She says that her sister, Barbara Thomas, who was a dancer and teacher, helped by designing the dance the girls did for the Flower Waltz.

Some of my Mother's, (Joan Thomas') 4th Grade Students while rehearsing for the Festival. I love these pictures that my Mother took of her students, then developed herself. She says that her sister, my Aunt Barbara helped by designing the dance the girls did for the Waltz of the Flowers. I love this picture especially where the girls were full of excitement and surprise. There are several pictures of the kids and the program are included here. Many many years later in 2003 I stood on the sidewalk where they are standing and visited the auditorium where the festival was held. What magic and merriment. Oh so long ago.
