Dancy Terrace or Redell Street between 9th and 10th, Main and Hubbard Streets, Springfield, Jacksonville, Florida
Teachers Joan Thomas and Anneitta Morgan with their students. If this was 1941, both teachers were contributors to the May Day Festival of 1941: Miss Thomas created the Waltz of the Flowers number and Miss Morgan was in charge of the lighting. Spotlights were shown down into the auditorium at MattieV via an opening or hole in the wall of a second floor cloakroom. Annietta showed Joan how this was done.
Joan's life-long friend Willa Whitfield, was also involved in the pageant that year as was Miss Alberta Lyles, who grew up in Springfield, was married in the small church which is now the Springfield Women's Club, and was the Matron of Honor in Joan Thomas' wedding in 1944. Alberta and Joan remain good friends today. |
