4. MUTATIONAL FIELD THEORY In fact it was though his lifelong study of the disturbed state of Language (its hidden side) that the theoretical work of Lleddir Nhah-Nhoj (a student of Le Coeur's) evolved. We quote the relevant passage from Lleddir's (unpublished) paper "Language Modalities" (1987): "We must see the incidence of an Imaginary event (1) divided by the rate of its energy effect (E), of any given discursive "cut" to be in either a disturbed state or a natural state, (21) but it must be noted that the relative dispositions of the state are of minimum concern: each so-called sanity/insanity event is merely a specific incident as set within a generalized (social) context..." Laing (1967) regards schizophrenic behaviour as being "reasonable" when set within a bizarre social context. Szasz ((1974) calls mental illness itself a myth, and subscribes to the veiw that madness is a "nanufactured" commodity (1970). Finally Newman (1991) apprehends psychology itself to be a myth. Thus we move, by example, through a Discourse towards a historical appreciation of a field in play (in this instance, psychology)(22). This example may serve to illustrate the general (mutational field) theory, which may be expressed mathematically(23) as follows:  Lleddir's work provided a theoretical proof for the existence of an additional co-ordinate field, and thus a refutation of the longstanding assumption that the bilaterate field was the so-called life... Moreover, prooof suggested a shift away from epistemological relativism towards an interest in investigating translative processes occuring within the same Language(24). that is, a deconstruction and decentralization of "texts" into federations, affinity groups, local communities; moving from ideology to dialectic, and from dialect to dialect... Beyond this, it was only necessary to test these formulations , and so to construct a device which can detect(25) incident- events as they occur across a broad range of paleographic and linguistic onto-genetic mutations and Discursive displays always-already at hand. |
